Our Credentials

Our facility is unique.  At Bowie Child Care your child will come in contact with the same two staff members from open to close:  Dawn Pitsenberger and Jo Ann Altfather.  At larger 50-100 plus capacity centers, your son or daughter could come in contact with as many as four personnel daily if not more.

Does it make a difference?  We believe it does.  We believe this consistency in staffing provides comfort for your child as well as gives us the ability to evaluate his or her educational needs more effectively.  We see what works for your child first hand through our own eyes.  We see how he or she reacts and responds to certain situations and are able to adjust our program as necessary to fit your child's needs.  We don't have to rely on information communicated to us by a third or fourth staff member or read about an incident that happened the previous afternoon and then attempt comprehend how your child felt based on someone else's evalutation.

This is also beneficial for you as a parent.  If you ever have a question regarding your child's care or simply want to know how he or she behaved at lunch, we can provide you with the details first hand from our own account.  Plus, throughout the day we even notate what we observe on our "What I Did Today" page for you to take home each evening.

Are there any other benefits of a smaller facility?  Yes, as educators we strongly feel that younger children become overwhelmed in larger facilities, especially if its the child's first group experience.  They can get lost in the crowd and this can make learning extremely difficult.  Plus, different children have different needs.  They learn at different levels.  It's much easier to idenity these cues and adjust our program accordingly because we are a smaller facility.

We also are a mixed age group facility.  All of our children (aged 18-months to 4-years old) play and learn in the same classroom.  This is especially helpful to parents with more than one child.  Your son or daughter has the luxury of remaining in the same room as his or her siblings.  Because our program is tailored to your child's specific developmental level, there is no risk of older children not reaching their true potential.  They are also not inhibited based on age.  If your son is advanced, he will be taught accordingly.  If there is an area that is troublesome for your daughter, that area can be addressed without her being premitted from advancing as in some facilities.

We would love to discuss our program with you.

Our skills handbook outlines our program and the areas of development we focus on at Bowie Child Care.

Please call (301) 367-1871 for more details or to arrange to stop by our center for a visit.

Below are a couple of subjects we've focused on at Bowie Child Care.  We also have a bird feeder outside.  The children get really excited when they can identify which birds are at the feeder.
